Production Notes

Casting the role of Craig was no easy task. The producers conducted talent searches both in the United Sates and abroad. "We needed a very talented youngster for this demanding role, with a tremendous amount of lovability. We knew it would be a hard enough role for them to act, but adding a British accent would be even more pressure," says Wilson.

Eleven-year-old Thomas Sangster fit the bill perfectly, and he didn't have to work at the British accent since he lived in London. The producers saw something special in Sangster, a cousin of Actor Hugh Grant. "Thomas is a very good listener. He is so focused...you can see him thinking." says an impressed Wilson. "He just leapt out from the rest. He was living the moment," says Wood.

"Thomas was a sweet little guy. We were playing soccer in the backyard in one of the scenes and had a great time taking about school-it reminded me of when I was his age working in the entertainment industry and the challenges that brings to a little guy like him."
-Kirk Cameron

Sangster says he is very different form the character he plays. "Craig likes football (European soccer); I like tennis, rugby and drawing," says Sangster.

Both of his parents are actors and his mother, Tasha Bertram, appears briefly in the film as a night nurse. Sangster's angelic smile spread joy among the cast and crew who found him a pleasure to work with.

"Thomas was s delight. He's precious looking, and I think the vulnerability-the physical vulnerability of who he is-realy helped me as playing his mother. He's a wonderful little actor, and it was a treat to play his mom."
-Catherine Oxenberg

"Just before the take, I relax and get into what Craig's going through," says the young actor. "And then when it's 'action', it's out of Thomas and straight into Craig." The mature Sangster says it was very fulfilling at the end of the day to play such a range of emotions, "but it's very hard." He feels viewers will become wrapped up in the film and how hard Craig fought to stay alive. "He deserved to stay alive," says Sangster. "Craig has an amazing spirit to actually survive this."
